When the father was explaining to the deacons what had happened, the mother and her brood got his razor and slit the automobile top and all the tires into pieces, then made haste to the home they had left. The poor automobile, rusted and disabled, still stands in the widow man's yard, but he has stayed single. He declares he is forever "done with widow-women an' automobiles" (190).
