In the fall, when uncultivated fields are covered with broom sedge, she gets some of the younger members to gather enough broom "straw" for a whole year's supply of brooms for her home and the church. Her dusters are turkey-tail feathers saved from turkeys by her fellow church members who cook for white people (92).
