They recognize that they live in a white man's country where white governments try to enforce laws that are not accepted by human hearts. They have learned patience and tolerance and have faith in the kindness of the Creator even when He chastens those whom He loves best. They pity the white man's faith in himself and make allowances for those drunk with pride in superior knowledge, who go staggering from one mistaken idea to another, but they deplore the foolishness of discarding old ways and old culture and old beliefs gleaned from generations of experience (12).
